Krug Grande Cuvée is not a vintage Champagne. Krug assembles it afresh each year, building on one harvest with reserve wines from many older years. Each assembly is released as a numbered édition. The édition number tells you what is in the bottle: which harvest it is built on, how many wines went into it, and how much reserve wine it holds.
As a quick rule, for the éditions on this page the base year is the édition number plus 1844. The 172ème Édition is built on 2016, the 173ème Édition is built on 2017 and the 174ème on 2018. Krug Rosé numbers its éditions separately: add 1988 to get the base year, so the 28ème Édition is built on 2016.
ELID gives each édition its own identifier. The base wine FR-CMP-KRUG01 covers Grande Cuvée as a whole, and a suffix names the édition: FR-CMP-KRUG01-N173 is the 173ème Édition.

What sets each édition apart
- 174ème (base 2018): has the highest Pinot Noir share in this run, at 54%, and has the lowest Chardonnay share, at 29%.
- 173ème (base 2017): has the lowest reserve share on this page, at 31%, so the 2017 harvest makes up 69% of the blend.
- 172ème (base 2016): is built on what Krug's cellar master Julie Cavil called a year of contrasts, "a caricature of the climatic pendulum".
- 171ème (base 2015): uses the fewest wines on this page, 131, and drew on reserves from cooler years such as 2008, 2013 and 2014 to add tension to the warm 2015 harvest.
- 170ème (base 2014): has the lowest Meunier share, at 11%; has the highest reserve share, at 45%; and leans on reserves because of a difficult 2014 Pinot Noir harvest, according to Krug.
- 169ème (base 2013): names plots in Ambonnay, Les Riceys and Sainte-Gemme.
- 168ème (base 2012): uses the most wines in this run, 198.
- 167ème (base 2011): reaches back furthest, to a 1995 reserve wine.
- 166ème (base 2010): includes reserve wines from 2000 (Oger) and 2006 (Verzy and Bouzy).
Dosage and disgorgement
ELID's technical records give dosage and approximate disgorgement for most éditions. Dosage is consistently low, between 4.5 and 6 g/L. Published sources differ by up to about 1 g/L for some éditions, so check each édition's section on the wine page for the source behind each figure.

How to tell which édition you have
Recent bottles print the édition number on the front label, for example "173ème Édition". Every bottle also carries a six-digit Krug ID on the back label. Entering it on Krug's website or app shows the édition and the story of the blend. Restaurant lists do not always name the édition, so ask before ordering if it matters to you.
Which éditions are on restaurant lists now?
Three éditions dominate restaurant lists: the 171ème, 172ème and 173ème account for 54 of the 89 édition listings (61%). Older éditions trail off quickly, though a few lists still offer bottles as old as the 159ème.

Bars show how many restaurants name each édition on their list. The London median is the middle bottle price where at least three London lists name the édition; the number of lists is in brackets. Base years are shown only for éditions ELID has documented.
London prices do not simply rise with age. The newest of the three most-listed éditions, the 173ème, is also the cheapest in London, at £370. The samples are small. For Krug Grande Cuvée alongside Dom Pérignon, Cristal and other prestige Champagnes, see What Restaurants Charge for Champagne.
Krug Rosé éditions
Krug Rosé is also released by numbered édition. It blends far fewer wines than Grande Cuvée, and about 10–11% of each blend is Pinot Noir vinified as a red wine with traditional skin maceration. The table covers each édition ELID has documented; ELID has no record of the 25ème.
