Production Details Single-origin Chenin Blanc from a parcel on Rustenhof farm in Firgrove, southern Stellenbosch, on the False Bay coast. The vineyard sits on a small granite hill called Sinai, about 4km from the ocean, and is dry-farmed bushvine Chenin Blanc on the upper part of the slope. Grower: Pieter Bredell. The 2023 vintage was wet in the False Bay area and Alheit selected only part of the fruit to maintain quality, resulting in about half the normal volume. Grapes were hand sorted and whole bunch pressed. The juice was very lightly settled with no additions to the raw juice, then wild fermented in old barrels of various sizes for about two months. The wine stayed on lees for around 12 months, then rested in tank on fine lees without fining for a further five months prior to bottling.
Tasting Notes
Nose: tangy yellow fruit, soft spices
Palate: full, powerful, acidic drive, saline tension, long finish
