Production Details Estate-grown grapes were hand-harvested, destemmed and sorted. The fruit was 100% destemmed but left uncrushed for whole-berry fermentation and pressed after seven days. Fermentation used native yeasts, followed by full malolactic fermentation with naturally occurring bacteria. The wine matured for twenty months in 100% new, air-dried American-oak barrels. Sulfur additions were reported as 35 ppm initially at crush and 78 ppm over the course of aging; these are addition figures, not finished-wine sulfite analysis. The wine was pad-filtered at bottling. The season had 36 inches of above-average rainfall, late-June bloom, and a cool summer and fall.
Tasting Notes Producer winemaker note dated June 2013: saturated ruby, with espresso, roasted meat, savory herbs, violets and dark chocolate; blueberry, blackcurrant, fennel and black-olive flavors; medium body, silky tannins and a persistent finish.
