Production Details Organically grown grapes were hand harvested, destemmed, retained as whole berries and subjected to 100% automated berry sorting. Fermentation used a floating cap with daily pump-overs; 1.42 g/L calcium carbonate was added during primary fermentation. The wine matured for 21 months in 100% new air-dried American oak barrels. Minimum-effective sulfur additions were 30 ppm at crush and 90 ppm over the course of aging, and the wine was pad filtered at bottling. Nine barrels were produced from 4.8 tons grown on 2.9 acres. The 2013 growing season had 20.5 inches of rain, mid-June bloom, and moderate summer and fall weather finishing early.
Tasting Notes Opaque purple; mountain fruit, tobacco, olive, iron, violets, licorice, penetrating red fruit, firm acidity, youthful chalky tannins, mountain-chaparral herbs, eucalyptus and menthol, exotic spice, toasted oak, and a long finish.
