2010 Technical Specifications

Alcohol 14.3%
Grape Varieties 88% Petite Sirah, 8% Zinfandel, 2% Syrah, 2% Peloursin
Region Dry Creek Valley
Soil Gravelly clay loam
Harvest Dates 4 September–4 October 2010
Brix at Harvest 26.0°
Estate Grown Yes
Vine Age Petite Sirah planted 1901–1998 at Lytton East and 1987–2001 at Lytton West

Production Details Hand-harvested estate grapes were destemmed, partially crushed and naturally fermented, then pressed after nine days. After full malolactic fermentation, the wine matured fourteen months in air-dried American oak. The barrel shares printed on the sheet—15% new, 45% one- or two-year-old, 25% three-year-old and 25% four-year-old—total 110%, so the source's oak distribution is internally inconsistent and no reconciled proportions are proposed. Ridge added 75 mg/L calcium carbonate to moderate high acidity; this is a treatment rate, not a finished-wine acidity measurement. Sulfur additions were 35 ppm at crush and 190 ppm cumulatively during aging, followed by pad filtration. Reported vineyard yield was 1.5 to more than 3 tons per acre.
