Production Details Sandy Lane fruit from own-rooted, head-trained, dry-farmed vines planted around 1890 was hand harvested, destemmed and crushed. Seven vineyard blocks fermented separately on native yeasts, followed by full malolactic fermentation on naturally occurring bacteria. The wine aged fourteen months in air-dried American-oak barrels: 9% new, 11% one-year-old, 50% four-year-old and 30% five-plus-year-old. Sulfur additions were 35 ppm at crush and 88 ppm during aging; these are process additions, not a finished-wine sulfite analysis. The wine was pad filtered at bottling.
Tasting Notes Cherry cola, roasted meat, dusty cocoa, slate, leather, ripe raspberry, garrigue and pepper; medium-bodied with juicy acidity and resolved tannins.
