Production Details Bottled-2017 release (750 mL): grapes were hand-picked in September/October from vines recorded as 80 to over 100 years old, at a density of 4,000 per hectare and with Guyot and Royat training. Whole bunches with 100% stems were foot-trodden in lagares; the wine matured in large old wooden vats in Vila Nova de Gaia before bottling in June 2017. Analysis also reports dry extract 137.90 g/dm³, volatile acidity 0.20 g/dm³, total SO₂ 9 mg/dm³, density 1.0275 g/cm³ and Baumé 4.10. Origin information also conflicts: the vines field lists Vinha da Pisca/Vale do Pinhão/Ferrão and the general description centers Vinha da Pisca, while the vinification text says the majority came from vineyards around Vale de Mendiz plus other old Pinhão Valley vineyards.
Tasting Notes Bottled-2017 release: vivid deep dark-red edge; cherries, black plums, mint and licorice; smooth integrated tannins, ripe fruit and a long finish.
Food Pairing Dark-chocolate desserts; Cheddar, Gouda or Brie; spicy red-meat, game, lamb, veal and pepper-steak dishes.
