Production Details This is a non-vintage age-indicated blend of wines averaging 20 years. Fruit comes from Vinha da Pisca, Vale do Pinhão and Ferrão, from vines over 60 years old, hand harvested in September/October and trained to Guyot and Royat. The current producer record states 4,000 vines/ha. The Tawnies mature for many years in 550 L small old oak casks in Vila Nova de Gaia before blending. An archived producer-branded sheet instead gives 4,000–6,000 vines/ha. The current API additionally records dry extract 146.50, volatile acidity 0.61 and total SO2 56 without exposing their units or analytical basis, so these observations are not mapped to numeric canonical fields.
Tasting Notes Brick-red/brown with orange hues; crystallized fruit, dried apricot, smooth integrated nutty character and a persistent alcoholic finish.
Food Pairing Cheeses; chocolate-based desserts; dried fruits and nuts; egg-based pies; coffee- or vanilla-flavoured desserts. It may also be served lightly chilled as an aperitif.
