Production Details Its base is a fine 1863 Port aged in cask until 1972 and subsequently held in demijohns; other ancient and rare wines also form part of the batch. Niepoort states that this release was aged entirely in Vila Nova de Gaia and lists its maturation vessels as pipes and demijohns. The record also notes hand-picked fruit harvested in September/October. Additional producer fields report dry extract 173.40, Baumé 5.80, volatile acidity 1.84 and density 1.0395, but the API does not state units or analytical basis for those four observations.
Tasting Notes Chestnut to deep-mahogany colour with olive-green tinges; intense dried fruit, raisins, honey, fireplace smoke, cigar leaf and coffee; silky, enveloping and rich, with vibrant acidity, freshness and a very long finish.
