Production Details A non-vintage blend of wines from different harvests; the 40-year indication represents the average age of the wines in the blend, not a single harvest. Grapes ferment with their skins in stainless-steel vats at 16–18°C, with churning during maceration; fermentation is stopped by adding grape brandy. The component wines mature in oak casks for variable periods before blending. The vineyard description includes horizontal terraces and newer vinha ao alto plantings, with elevations up to 600 metres. Recommended serving temperature is 8–10°C. Once opened, the producer recommends consumption within 2–4 months.
Tasting Notes Bright gold; dried fruit, toasted almond, hazelnut, apricot, fig and orange peel; structured and powerful, with balanced acidity, freshness and an impressive finish
Food Pairing Aperitif; foie gras, vol-au-vent, scallop gratin, mushroom risotto, crème brûlée, custard-filled crêpe, spicy apple crumble, and blue cheese such as Stilton; also suitable on its own
