Production Details This is a non-vintage aged Tawny assembled from wines of different harvests. Hand-picked grapes are destemmed and crushed, then carefully macerated with constant churning during fermentation in lagares at 28–30°C until the desired Baumé is reached; grape brandy is then added to produce the fortified wine. The component wines mature in oak casks for varying periods, and their average age defines the 50-year label indication. Vineyards include horizontal terraces and Vinha ao Alto plantings and reach up to 600 m elevation. Recommended serving temperature is 12–14°C; after opening, consumption within 4–6 months is recommended.
Tasting Notes Mahogany with greenish hues; intense, complex and broad, with layered wood, dried fig, snuff, dried white plum and walnut aromas; full and persistent, with spice, dried fruit and fresher notes on the finish
Food Pairing Crème brûlée; apple tart with vanilla ice cream; dried fruit; medium-strength hard cheese; or served on its own
