Production Details Fruit came from terraced Quinta de Nápoles vineyards, planted in 1987, at 100–360 m elevation, with 4,000 vines/ha and Royat training; grapes were hand-picked in September. Niepoort describes minimal intervention, followed by 22 months in cask and barrel—recovered old wooden vats from Port-wine casks plus barrels—aiming to avoid overt wood influence. The record also reports dry extract 26.60 g/L, volatile acidity 0.60 g/L, free SO2 at filling 15 mg/L and density 0.9910 g/cm³. It reports energy of 79 kcal/329 kJ and carbohydrates of 0.9 but does not expose their measurement basis. The separate vine-age field says 25 years, which conflicts with the stated 1987 planting date for this 2022 wine; no canonical vine_age value is therefore proposed.
Tasting Notes Restrained; Earl Grey, cassis, fresh blackberry, graphite and a faint herbal nuance; firm acidity and serious but non-dominant tannins, with transparency and energy rather than weight.
Food Pairing Traditional cuisine including pork and beans, lamprey, oven-roasted kid goat and Minho-style rojões; vegetarian pairings include lentil or beetroot dishes.
