Production Details The 12-hectare, flat Contrada Samperi vineyard is trained to bush vines and Guyot counter-espalier at 3,500 vines/ha. Grapes are manually selected and harvested in small crates, softly pressed and naturally settled before traditional ambient-temperature fermentation. The producer says the perpetual system was restored in 1978 using old barrel-aged wines already at the estate, followed by annual additions of wine from overripe Grillo; early reserves were drawn from the system’s lower level into individual oak casks. The current sheet specifies an average of 40 years' maturation in oak and chestnut casks using the perpetuo/Solera method. The current shop recommends serving at 16–18°C. The sheet also prints “first vintage: 1980,” but this is not treated as a harvest vintage: the current producer shop explicitly labels Quarantennale NV, while the release account describes a perpetual reserve begun in 1978 with pre-existing wines and annual additions.
