2016 Technical Specifications

Alcohol 13.5%
Classification Premier Cru
Region Pitures Dessus
Production Details The importer’s 2016 vintage brochure describes the house method for all wines as complete lees ageing with gentle lees stirring several times monthly, adjusted by vintage, without racking during that process. Bottling is performed manually by gravity after a full moon, with no fining, filtration, or sulfur addition at bottling. The 2016 wines had not been racked when Stephen Tanzer visited and were described as very low in sulfur. The brochure’s general characterization of 2016 alcohol as below 13.5% conflicts with the exact Pitures Dessus label declaration of 13.5% vol; the wine-specific label value is retained without inferring an alternative measurement.
Tasting Notes Vinous, November 1, 2018: bright dark-red and ruby appearance; dark raspberry, black cherry, smoky soil and sweet-oak aromas; crushed black cherry, coffee and game flavors; fine tannins and supporting acidity.
