Production Details Barrel-sample context: official producer-hosted reports describe extended lees aging with minimal sulfur. The 2009 wines had still never been racked when tasted in late June 2011; an earlier February inspection found none of the whites racked and no SO2 yet added. Noticeable residual CO2 was expected, and decanting was recommended.
Tasting Notes Allen Meadows/Burghound barrel assessment: notably powerful and robust, with massive size and weight, an intensely backward and austere finish, and less finesse than the Puligny-side P cuvée.

Production Details Contemporaneous barrel-stage report: the 2007 whites received extended élevage on fine lees. Apart from the already-bottled Champ Gains, the wines had not been racked. Both Montrachet versions were only about one-third through malolactic fermentation when inspected. Cold-cellar maturation left residual CO2, and decanting was recommended.
