2023 Technical Specifications

Classification Grand Cru
Region Montrachet
Sites Fruit from both the Chassagne and Puligny sides of Montrachet
Production Details At Burghound's pre-bottling assessment, the 2023 Le Moine whites had not been racked after completion of malolactic fermentation. The Montrachet still showed residual secondary-fermentation aromas. Bottling was expected around November 2025, approximately 27 months after harvest. The producer described the long élevage as allowing oxidizable material to precipitate naturally instead of being removed through filtration or fining, with elevated dissolved CO2 intended at bottling.
Tasting Notes Burghound pre-bottling assessment: reduced nose with residual secondary-fermentation aromas; concentrated, powerful and exceptionally long finish. The wine was not considered ready for evaluation and was left unrated.

2016 Technical Specifications

Classification Grand Cru
Region Montrachet
Unfined Yes
Unfiltered Yes
Production Details The 2016 VINTUS dossier states that the wines were aged entirely on their lees, received gentle bâtonnage a few times per month according to vintage needs, and were not racked during this stage. The cool, humid cellar delayed malolactic fermentation into summer. Bottling was performed manually by gravity after a full moon, with no fining, filtration or sulfur addition at bottling. For this Montrachet specifically, Saouma said at the tasting that he intended to rack it before the 2018 harvest and then return it to barrel for another couple of months before bottling.
Tasting Notes Vinous pre-bottling assessment: bright yellow; initially restrained pear, crushed-rock and iodine aromas; brooding, thick and sappy, gaining vibrancy, definition and purity with air; crushed-stone minerality, medicinal herbs, seamless texture and an exceptionally persistent finish.

2013 Technical Specifications

Classification Grand Cru
Region Montrachet
Sites Fruit from both the Chassagne and Puligny sides of Montrachet
Production Details At the February assessment, none of the 2013 whites had been racked; their lees had been stirred three times in total, and no SO2 had yet been added. The producer described this as a process intended to let oxidizable material oxidize and precipitate naturally instead of being removed through filtration or fining. This Montrachet used fruit from both the Chassagne and Puligny sides.
Tasting Notes Burghound pre-bottling assessment: highly reserved nose of white and yellow orchard fruit with spice, wood and jasmine-tea nuances; restrained but powerful, muscular and focused palate; authoritative, exceptionally long and well-balanced finish, combining substantial power with little apparent weight.
