2023 Technical Specifications
Grape Varieties Pinot Noir
Region Le Clos du Roi
Soil Calcareous, Slightly sandy marl
Harvest Dates Estate harvest period: 5–13 September 2023; picking was limited to mornings during the heat
Sites Two Clos du Roi parcels totalling 0.4465 hectares: 0.3505 hectares planted in 1961 and 0.096 hectares planted in 2018
Vine Age Parcel plantings from 1961 and 2018
Fermentation Vessels Truncated wooden vats
Production Details The steep parcels are worked with the estate's Comtois horses and treated using tracked equipment so ordinary tractors do not enter. Vinification is performed without pumps or sulphites, with whole-bunch fruit except following hail or frost; after severe sorting, the 2023 Pinot Noir was vinified as whole bunches. Maturation lasts 15–18 months in the estate's 12th-century cellars, with 85% in barrels previously used for several wines and the balance in new barrels.
Tasting Notes Producer vintage overview: notably fresh and typical despite the very hot year
