2018 Technical Specifications

Region Les Amoureuses
Production Details In the producer-hosted 2018 cellar report covering this wine, Saouma described retaining about 6 liters of lees in each barrel and deliberately interrupting malolactic conversion to prolong fermentation and slow maturation. These are stated as cellar practices for the 2018 wines rather than a separate analysis of the Les Amoureuses lot.
Tasting Notes Wine Spectator's non-blind assessment describes the 2018 Les Amoureuses as discreet, silky and refined, sharing the red- and black-fruit, floral, violet, raspberry and wild-cherry character observed across the neighboring Chambolle wines.

2016 Technical Specifications

Alcohol 13.5%
Classification Premier Cru
Region Les Amoureuses
Contains Added Sulfites Yes
Unfined Yes
Unfiltered Yes
Production Details The house produced only one to three barrels per cru. Its 2016 production overview says reds were guided toward phenolic ripeness and acid retention with some whole-cluster use; wines were aged entirely on their lees with gentle bâtonnage a few times monthly and no racking. The cool, humid cellar delayed malolactic fermentation. Bottling was performed by hand under gravity after a full moon, without fining, filtration or sulfur addition at bottling. For this Les Amoureuses parcel, the PDF reports roots extending deeply into rock and characterizes the wine as highly mineral, relatively low in tannin and acidity, and exceptionally persistent.
Tasting Notes Vinous describes black raspberry, boysenberry, violet, bitter chocolate and saline minerality, with dense, pure fruit and noble tannins. Burghound describes lavender, red and dark raspberry, pronounced minerality, a refined caressing texture and a persistent finish.
Critics Ratings 92-95
