1971 Technical Specifications

Grape Varieties Pinot Noir and Chardonnay
Region Champagne
Soil Chalk soils
Harvest Dates Harvest started 18 September 1971
Sites 12 crus
Bottling Date 26–30 July 1972
Disgorgement Date February 2021
Dosage 10.0 g/L
Production Details The twelve-cru blend was assembled in March 1972 and bottled from 26–30 July 1972. Bottles remained under their original seal on remuage racks during approximately half a century of cellar ageing before the February 2021 disgorgement. The dosage liqueur was made from 2019 Chardonnay that had not undergone malolactic fermentation; that malolactic statement applies to the liqueur, not necessarily to the 1971 base wine. The release comprised 2,021 individually numbered bottles.
Tasting Notes Coppery-gold appearance with discreet effervescence; aromas of spice, citrus, licorice, cumin, roasted coffee, blackcurrant and fig; a velvety, persistent finish with vibrant citrus freshness.
