Grape Varieties Riesling
Classification Beerenauslese

Production Details Producer vintage context: harvest began on 8 September; botrytis-affected berries dried rapidly, allowing selection of small quantities of Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese. Seventy litres of rain fell over five days late in September, increasing rot pressure and making clean grape selection essential. Harvest finished on 2 October. The exact Halenberg Riesling Beerenauslese is listed among the vintage's best wines.

2011 Technical Specifications

Alcohol 7.5%
Grape Varieties Riesling
Classification Beerenauslese
Region Nahe
Soil Blue slate and quartzite
Botrytis Affected Yes
Production Details The wine was derived primarily from a very young vineyard after healthy fruit had first been removed for dry wine. Vintage context reported with the exact-wine review: the main Riesling harvest began on 3 October and lasted two weeks; botrytis arrived after heavy rain around 10–12 September and subsequently dried to ideal purity. The review reports “9.5 grams acidity” but does not state a denominator or analytical acid basis, so this is not proposed as canonical total acidity.
Tasting Notes Producer: raisins, pineapple, mandarin and a radiant finish. Robert Parker Wine Advocate, reviewed February 2013: herbal liqueur, dark honey, salted caramel, creamy texture, salinity and pastry-like yeast and vanilla tones.
