Production Details 1984-harvest Reserve release made by bottle fermentation in the traditional Méthode Champenoise and hand-riddled. This release spent 33 years on its lees; no exact day count is stated. Disgorgement evidence is release-specific and conflicts slightly: Mosel Fine Wines reports June 2017 from the bottle label, while Lobenberg says approximately July 2017. The producer archive describes its Reserve Crémants as vintage sparkling wines kept on lees for decades, with yeast removed shortly before sale. The specialist source reports that the 9.5% alcohol release could legally be designated only Schaumwein rather than Sekt.
Tasting Notes For the 1984 Reserve 33-year-lees release, Heiner Lobenberg describes apricot preserve, petrol, woodruff, gooseberry, dill, caramel, matcha tea and fresh ginger, with pronounced acidity and gentle perlage. Mosel Fine Wines describes the June 2017 disgorgement batch as showing pear, almond paste, lovage, fine spices, quince jelly and green tea, with a racy, tart and long finish.
Food Pairing Aged spicy cheeses; strongly flavoured herb-driven dishes; spicy fish dishes such as tuna tartare with wasabi; or fresh seafood. The producer recommends serving its Reserve sparkling wines with food or after the meal rather than as an aperitif.
