Production Details The 2024 Auslese wines used later-picked, riper fruit and involved virtually no botrytis; the Wehlen expression is described as rounder, deeper, more stone-fruited and intense. Vineyard context: the estate owns five hectares in Wehlener Sonnenuhr, whose slopes reach up to a 70% gradient.
Tasting Notes James Suckling: white peach, complex florals and salty minerality; concentrated and vibrant, with a very long, salty finish. Anne Krebiehl MW (Vinous): peach, orange zest and bergamot, with tangy citrus, a sleek texture and serene sweetness. Stephan Reinhardt (The Wine Advocate): crushed slate, salt, blackcurrant, peach and lemon rind; filigreed yet intense, saline, dense, complex and long.
Food Pairing Pork, game birds, schnitzel, savoury tarts, roast chicken, terrine, sausages and charcuterie, venison, Japanese or Chinese dishes, and cheeses; light fruit- or custard-based desserts that are not overly sweet may also work.
